Unconscious mental traps and emotional decision-making affect all aspects of human experience, including trading. Failure to recognize their influence on our behavior can cause self-sabotage and a lack of consistent profitability.
Dr. Gary Dayton, an expert on trading psychology and performance, will present three 90-minute sessions to help traders recognize and address these mental and emotional obstacles. His presentations will be informed by his deep knowledge of mindfulness-acceptance, cognitive-behavioral and sports psychologies, and his years of experience in helping traders develop peak performance mindsets and abilities.
In this course, Dr. Dayton will introduce the thinking traps – or cognitive biases – most relevant to trading and how to recognize and address them. Next, he will present effective ways to increase awareness of and decrease the harmful effects of powerful emotions – greed, hope and fear – on our trading. In the last session, he will demonstrate how traders can boost their technical and mental skills by reshaping their process to incorporate key insights from sports and peak performance psychology.
Achieve Optimal Trading Performance with Mindfulness & Cutting-Edge Psychology
Session 1: An introduction to everyday thinking traps and cognitive biases that often blindside the trader who is usually not aware that their thinking is causing problems. We’ll look at the source of these thinking traps, the most common ones relevant to trading, and steps a trader can take to avoid falling into the traps in their trading.
Session 2: Strong emotions such as fear, greed & hope can quickly derail trading performance. Conventional methods to control emotions by suppressing or avoiding them do not work. Rather, trying to control and suppress emotions tends to increase them. We will teach you why we experience challenging emotions in trading and effective ways to deal with them.
Session 3: In this session, we will look at the trading psychology process as a useful way to structure your trading. Through this process adapted from sports psychology, we can improve not only our mental skills, but our technical trading skills as well. We will show you specific steps to help the trader overcome the unique challenges in trading.
