Richard Wyckoff, considered to be one of the “titans of technical analysis,” developed a trading and investing method based on what he called “the real rules of the game,” which he learned from observing the market activities of such legendary stock traders as JP Morgan and Jesse Livermore.  Wyckoff saw how the large operators carefully planned and executed their campaigns and later integrated their best practices with his own original insights, creating a chart-based method to track and trade in harmony with the big money (embodied today by the largest investment banks, hedge funds and pension plans, among others).

The Price/Volume/Time analytical approach of the Wyckoff Method provides chart-reading tools to help traders recognize and take advantage of specific institutional market activities, which in turn can enhance their ability to identify high-probability trading opportunities. Using this approach, we informed our Wyckoff Tape Reading participants on 5/9/22 (and tweeted the next day) that Crude Oil’s changing behavior could lead to a significant decline from the $102-$110 area.  Astute traders who took action in response to this observation took advantage of the 27% decrease in Crude Oil (about 30 points) over the subsequent 4.5 months.  The ensuing trading range contained a warning of potential weakness we issued to students on 11/28/22 (and tweeted the next day).  Prudent traders who took action in response to this warning positioned themselves to benefit from the continuation to the downside that began shortly after.
